Planning for Tennessee District Fall Council, 2014
The Pilot Club of Hohenwald held a very successful planning retreat on March 29th in preparation for Fall Council and how it will be presented at our District Convention in May. Thanks to Annette Peery for developing a Fall Council Worksheet and Outline for us to follow. Ten members in attendance were able to come up with a proposed budget, a tentative program schedule, a theme, and a planning committee to keep us moving forward in the months to come.
We made a few surprises for District Convention and decided on how they will be given out at that time. The four hour session also included coffee and pastries for breakfast and a lite lunch. Thanks to those members who brought goodies for us to eat and drink. See everyone at District Convention and be ready to "Get Wild With Us".
We will be presenting BrainMinders to the school on April 8th and 9th. We always look forward to a fun time with the children. We will participate in Special Olympics by selling concessions on April 23rd. This is a great event as well as a good fundraiser for our club. Hope to see everyone there.

Christmas Initiations

Pilot Club of Hohenwald initiated three new members and reinstated another at its annual Christmas dinner held December 19, 2013. District Pilot Treasurer Janet Williams, second from left, read the oath to, left, Donise Bates, Anita Turnbow, and Tammy Bigbie. Kathryn Kozlinski, right, has been reinstated. Kozlinski teaches seminars, sponsored by the Pilot Club, on brain disorders and care giving at the Lewis County Public Library and Senior Center.
Fall 2013 Update
The Pilot Club of Hohenwald has experienced a very busy and exciting few weeks. In September, we provided a luncheon for 150 employees of Oliver Technologies. They offered us this fundraising opportunity with only a week's notice. The members pulled together and served taco salads with all the fixins. We hope they will invite us again, as it is a great fundraising project for us.
Then we kicked off October with our second annual "Walk to Remember." Thanks to Trina Weaks for planning a fun Saturday morning complete with t-shirts, goodie bags and prizes for the walkers. Many thanks to our sponsors as well. The following week was one of our busiest yet. We met one afternoon to plant fall flowers in our downtown planters. It really spruced things up for Oktoberfest. The week ended with our annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning. We teamed up with the Lewis County Historical Society to serve over 200 hungry folks pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee. Thanks to all who turned out so early in the morning to help. Our local Anchor Club helped us with several of our events and we appreciate them and their sponsor, Mrs. Morgan, so much. While the breakfast was going on in Hohenwald, two of our members (Annette Peery and Byrne Dunn) were enjoying Fall Council in Athens. So sorry the rest of us had to miss the fun! |

Pilot Club of Hohenwald 5th Grade Writing Contest
The Pilot Club held a writing contest, “Showing Patriotism through Service: What Does It Mean to be a Community Volunteer” for the fifth grade at Lewis County Intermediate School.
For the Pilot Club, the month of November is about ‘Patriotism’ and how we can encourage community service for all ages. Fifth grade students got the opportunity to share many wonderful thoughts about what patriotism and community volunteering means to them. At the same time, fifth grade students were able to practice writing for their upcoming Writing Assessment in the spring. We want to thank the fifth grade students in submitting wonderful papers. The Pilot Club chose one winner that received a $25.00 gift card. The winner chosen was Chloe Lay, fifth grade student in Mrs. JoLynn Whitehead’s classroom. |
